~Niki's Cage Furniture~

  Hi there - We are Karli & Tim, a couple from Lancashire, UK. We have 8 chinchillas (and 2 guinea pig lodgers!)

 It all started with our sister site - Niki's Nummies. We came about from a baking experiment and the unfortunate circumstances of dealing with an ill chinchilla. Our chinchilla named Nikita had suddenly started losing weight, and showing signs of  serious teeth problems. Due to the cost of having an Exotic Specialist Vets that are competent in dealing with chinchillas and giving them the best care possible, the bills can often be hard to cope with! 

 So it is this beautiful chinchilla that gave us the inspiration to design cookies for small animals, which in turn helps them to have healthy teeth too. 

 Providing interestingly shaped wood to chew on will also help keep those gnashers in shape, keeping your pet entertained with different furniture shapes to play with, sit on or hide under.

  In January '09 We started looking on the internet for cage furniture - just for the sheer humour of seeing our chinchillas 'using' furniture in their cage - but didn't really find any (and doll-house furniture is too small and impractical! Not to mention unsafe to chew) so we started making some ourselves for our girls to use. That's when we thought other people might be interested too! That's when we started making our 'prototypes'.

 The rest is history, as the say...

We use ONLY untreated pine to make our cage furniture, no unsafe woods, sharp nails or nasty glue. We even use pine pegs (not too small to be a choking hazard) to hold the pieces together! :-)
